At the time  of the first  Resident Evil movie it was a new thing for film producers to  try and  make a video game into  a movie.  They  did it  and  they kept doing  it.  They  did it , because back in  the day  of  Playstation one ,  the video game  industry  made  so  much   more  money  than  the  film  industry and  it  still  does today. So  yeah these were all kind  of  crap  movies that still  made lots  of money due  to their fan base in video gaming.
